Ask Angela Ask Angela

Gloucester Licensed Victuallers Association has teamed with Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (GRASAC), Gloucestershire Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner to launch a new discreet initiative to assist anyone on a night out whose evening is not going well. The initiative applies to men and women who may be on a date but are feeling uncomfortable or even threatened. They can approach the staff of the premises they are in and use the codewords "Is Angela in?". The staff will then know that the person is in need of assistance and will help to remove them from the situation and call a taxi if necessary.

The initiative comes as the festive season is really underway and several bars and clubs are taking part including:

  • Dr Fosters
  • Cafe Rene
  • Minx Gentleman's Club
  • The Fountain Inn
  • The Old Bell
  • Gloucester Guild Hall
  • The Doctors
  • Bar Fever
  • Butlers Venue Bar
  • The Abbey
  • The Dick Whittington
  • One Eyed Jacks
  • The Registry

The posters which will be displayed in participating venues show the contact details for GRASAC.

Our thanks go to the Safer Communities Sexual Violence and Abuse Partnership, Lincolnshire who started the initiative and have kindly allowed us to use and adapt their posters.
