In February 2012, Safer Gloucester Partnership commissioned performances of Solomon Theatre's "The Power of Love" for Year 10 students in some secondary schools in Gloucester.
The Power of Love tells the moving and dramatic story of a young girl who has attracted the attention of the biggest catch in the school. Her new boyfriend is fit, gorgeous and she is the envy of all the girls.... but he is also becoming increasingly controlling. Jealous of her other friends, he begins to intimidate her psychologically and then violently.
This gritty, memorable story explores the changing nature of, and pressure on, relationships with family and friends, and the destructive role that violence, bullying and abusive behaviour can play in this.
After the performance, workshops enable students to talk with the actors whilst still in character, examining the nature of respect and the way they should expect to be treated in healthy relationships.
