Safer Gloucester Talk To Residents in Podsmead

13/Feb/2012

Safer Gloucester Partnership will be talking to residents in the Podsmead ward next week, asking for their views on life in the area.

A walkabout will be taking place in Shakespeare Avenue, Weller Bungalows, Dombey Bungalows and Hathaway, Betjeman and Stratford Close plus Arden and Avon House between 10am and 4pm on Friday, February 17.

Officers from Gloucester City Council, Gloucestershire Police and Project Solace will be joined by ward councillors and volunteers from the Three Bridges Partnership and Neighbourhood Watch Association, as they visit people at home to find out how they are affected by crime or anti-social behaviour. The following day, police officers will be continuing the visits to Tennyson, Burns, Shelley Avenues and Eliot Close.

Residents will be asked if they feel safe going out in the area where they live and if they would like to become part of a local Neighbourhood Watch scheme. They will also be asked what they like about the area and what they feel should be the priorities addressed in the next twelve months.

Gloucester Chief Inspector Richard Burge said “The Constabulary is always keen to listen to residents, and visiting each house in an area lets us talk to as many members of the community as possible to discuss any concerns they may have around crime and anti social behaviour or any other issues affecting their quality of life. We are grateful to the volunteers from the local Three Bridges Partnership and the Neighbourhood Watch Association for assisting us in Podsmead. We want to work together with local residents to resolve any issues and we encourage everyone to contact their local police officers, who are committed to working visibly in neighbourhoods, tackling local priorities.”

Kathy Williams, Gloucester City Council’s cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “This is another opportunity for local people to give us a really authentic take on issues around crime and anti-social behaviour in their area, and to make suggestions to address any issues that concern them. Safer Gloucester Partnership takes the impact of crime and anti-social behaviour on individuals very seriously and we are anxious to make improvements wherever possible. I am pleased that we are also asking residents what they like about living the area as it is good to hear the nice things too.”

Results of the survey will be analysed and reported back to residents in the near future. Similar exercises have taken place in other parts of the city including Matson, Coney Hill, Kingsholm, High Street, Kingsway, Moreland and Barton and the results can be viewed on the Safer Gloucester Partnership website www.safergloucester.co.uk.
