Safer Gloucester Speak to Barton and Tredworth Community

27/Jan/2012

Safer Gloucester Speak to Barton and Tredworth Community The Safer Gloucester partnership, which includes police, Gloucester City Council, Neighbourhood Watch, Gloucester City Homes and local councillors knocked on residents’ doors in Barton and Tredworth yesterday.

People living in LLandilo Street, Regent Street, Dainty Street and Belgrove Terrace were asked what they thought of the area and what they would like to see done to improve it.

Sergeant Lynn Northfield: “It was a great morning and the feedback was generally very positive, with some people having no issues and many feeling safe living in Barton and Tredworth. It doesn’t always make good headlines but it is reassuring to know the majority of residents are proud of the area’s community spirit.

“We knocked on about 60 doors. There were some concerns about drug dealing, and as we have said before we are tackling those issues by carrying out warrants and acting on the information we receive from the public.

“We want to increase that flow of information by tapping into the community spirit and setting up more Neighbourhood Watch schemes so we spoke to people about that too. We also heard concerns about anti-social behaviour, including some issues with noisy neighbours, and the agencies were able to explain what action could be taken.”

Pat Dabbs, Community Safety Officer at Gloucester City Council said, “We will be revisiting the area again on Friday evening to enable as many people as possible to speak to us.

“There are some issues like graffiti and fly tipping which the council are looking to address. Photographs of the graffiti in the area were taken as we went along and the council will be looking at removing these as soon as possible.

“However, it was good to speak to some residents who had lived in their homes for over 50 years. Barton and Tredworth have a proactive neighbourhood partnership and we were pleased that some residents asked to receive more information about this group.”

Following the exercise, City Council Neighbourhood Management Officers along with a police officer and PCSO carried out visits at several properties where excess side waste is an issue. As a result of this partnership, police officers will now be able to follow these visits with future enforcement action.
