Residents are invited to come along to the next Safer Gloucester open panel meeting on 14th September 2011 at the Civic Suite, Gloucester City Council Offices, North Warehouse, The Docks.
The meeting will start at 7pm and on this occasion guest speakers will be the Leader of Gloucester City Council, Cllr Paul James and Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Chief Inspector Richard Burge who will be speaking about “Gloucester at Night” and answering questions like “Are you safe in the city centre at night time?”
The police will report on the latest crime figures and trends and what they and Safer Gloucester are doing together to address these issues.
The meeting will close with a “question time” where members of the public are able to ask questions about the related work and crime situation in the city.
Chair of Safer Gloucester, Derek Cross from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said, “The Safer Gloucester open meetings give residents an opportunity to ask questions first hand of the agencies that make up the partnership and hold them to account. We are delighted to welcome the Leader of Gloucester City Council, Paul James to join us on this occasion to talk alongside Chief Inspector Burge about Gloucester’s night time economy and the benefits and problems of a vibrant nightlife in the city centre.”
Said Councillor James: “With our partners, we are working on a variety of ways to encourage more people to come into the city centre at night. This includes everything from new lighting schemes around some of our key buildings to encouraging new operators to set up in the city centre.
“We’ve got innovative schemes like the street pastors and the taxi marshalls to help people feel safer at night.
“These are just a few of the subjects I am grateful to be given the opportunity to discuss at this meeting.”
