Are We Prepared?
14/Jan/2012
Safer Gloucester agencies have invited members of the community to work through a pretend scenario of an event that has the potential to disrupt our community cohesion. We wanted to discuss whether the community links in Gloucester were prepared if such an event were to occur.
The all-day event will be taking place in the Civic Suite on Saturday the 14th January. The scenario will be of a high-profile protest march, and what issues are faced by agencies such as the Police and the Council, when an application for a march is received.
There are many legal and social considerations made when supporting the public's democratic right to protest. But the needs of the diverse communities in Gloucester must also be prioritised, if any particular protest could impact on those relationships.
The protest example will be used to test whether the communication links between residents and the public agencies are sufficient, and how messages could be sent out quickly in times of emergency. These methods of communication could be applied to any urgent situation, not only protests.
