On Saturday the 16th July 2011 there will be a Police and Community Fun Day at Abbeydale Community Centre. Organisers say it will be a chance for the residents to come together, and enjoy a sense of community, meeting people from their neighbourhood and the organisations which serve them.
Andy Tickner, chairman of the community centre, said he was looking forward to the event. He said: "This is going to be a major event for the Abbey community. It's something which has been planned by a number of organisations, including the police and city council, and we're looking forward to working with them."
"We have also encouraged our users to use the opportunity to have a sort-of open day to get more people involved."
He said the centre was the "ideal location" for such an event.
Inspector Neil Smith from the Gloucester District Local Policing Area, which covers the Abbey ward, said "..there will be members of the police, police specials, maybe the police dogs and a helicopter. There will be five-a-side football game with prizes, and we're asking companies to sponsor us. There will also be children's entertainment."
He added: "It will be a fantastic chance for people to come and have a chat."
"On the community days we've held in the past, whether in Hucclecote or Gloucester South, people have felt good about the community they live in, and, if the weather is good, that really does add to it."
There will be a stand from the Safer Gloucester Partnership at the event, so come along to find out about partner's work in community safety plus join in all the fun activities!
